It’s an exciting day for us here at Lavasoft. And, we think it will be for gamers around the world once they get wind of this news: Lavasoft has just launched a new version of our flagship security software – a spin-off of Ad-Aware that’s aimed specifically at online gamers and entertainment fans, providing protection as you play.

October saw Ad-Aware reach another milestone in its history with the launch of Ad-Aware in Swedish!

It has long confused people that a company based in Sweden has a flagship product which doesn’t speak the company’s native tongue, but the truth be known, many in the Lavasoft family do not speak Swedish either! As a truly global company, we have around 15 nationalities represented in our headquarters, based in Gothenburg, so English has always been the company language.

Since its public release on October 22, there’s been quite a bit of talk on Windows 7, and whether or not you should upgrade now to the new operating system. And, you’ve more than likely had your fill on news on this for the time being. We have, though, received some questions in from users on our Ad-Aware software’s compatibility, so we’d like to take a moment to address this, and let you know that - yes - here at Lavasoft, we’re ready!

Lavasoft was at the Virus Bulletin conference again last week, this time as one of the main sponsors. The folks from GData were there with their now infamous annual foosball tournament, or table football as it's formally known - for serious players (like our Microsoft adversaries), or for fun-loving teams like the ladies of Lavasoft.

An editorial piece in the New York Times caught my eye this past week. Here’s how it begins:

“Internet users used to comfort themselves by thinking that to become victims of the pirates of the Web, they had to frequent the online porn circuit or respond to an e-mail from the widowed wife of the former central bank governor of Nigeria. The idea was that one had to do something naughty to get caught in the wrongdoers’ net, or at least go for a late-night stroll in the rough end of town.”

Today, we’re happy to announce an important update in the Lavasoft Support Center: Lavasoft has launched a new chat support service. Chat Support gives Lavasoft customers another convenient way to contact the Support Team for quick answers to product questions.

We’ve been updating you from time to time with bits of news about our upcoming new version of Ad-Aware. Now that the Ad-Aware launch is only weeks away, we would like to take a minute to make sure that you’re all aware of the upcoming launch and the added security it will bring.

We're happy to announce that our website has grown even more internationally-minded this week… and now speaks Japanese. Check out our newly launched Japanese site at www.lavasoft.jp.

As we’re here doing business as usual at Lavasoft, we’re also thinking about the bigger picture – making the world a better, safer place for us all.

Browser security, namely which web browser keeps users the most secure, has long been a hotly disputed topic in the computer security industry. That’s why there was so much buzz surrounding the launch of Google Chrome, Google’s innovative new web browser.

Google’s objective with Google Chrome was to help make the Web faster, safer, and easier for users. In designing Chrome with this in mind, it actively addresses many of the vast security issues that each of us faces every time we browse the Web.

As you may have noticed from our News and Events page, and our previous post, the Anti-Spyware Coalition (ASC) held its public workshop last week in Washington, DC. Lavasoft’s own Janie “CalamityJane” Whitty (whom many of you may know from her work in the Lavasoft Support Forums) moderated this year’s Rogue Anti-Spyware panel.

Various reports state that huge numbers of PCs throughout the world have been “zombified” during the last year. Still, the true number of hijacked computers is likely much higher than what's stated, making botnets a massive global security problem.
