You asked for it and you got it!

In response to requests for longer evaluation periods on the beta and more corrections before each release, we're responding by adjusting beta releases to every other week instead of weekly. This will also allow our development team more time to update and enhance the functionality of Ad-Aware 2007 and squash any bugs found.

Ad-Aware 2007 April Beta Schedule:

Beta Five - April 5th
Beta Six - April 20th

The term "Malware" is a familiar one to all of us, and has been for years, but it wasn't until recently that it was officially recognized as a word.

The Oxford English Dictionary has added "malware" to its online version.

Screencast Tutorial

by Michael on March 28th, 2007 in Lavasoft Products.

Thanks, Steve, for sending us your Ad-Aware screencast and quick product tutorial.

Today we want to bring your attention to three websites we came across recently we thought worthy of passing along to all of you.

Skype has once again been used as the distribution channel for another Warezov Trojan attack.

According to Cnet, Skype users receive a "check this up" chat message that links to the nasty "file_01.exe".

A word of caution to all of you Skype users out there.

Beta Four was released today, so make sure you download and are working with the most up-to-date fixes.

Speaking of fixes, you'll find them on The Beta Page after you log-in on the Beta-Applications page, or in the beta forums.

We've also added a button on The Beta Page so that you can track what bugs you've submitted. Make sure to check it out.

Thanks for another great week of feedback and creepy crawlers (bugs)!

Spring Cleaning!

by isergant on March 21st, 2007 in Security Tips.

Today is the first day of Spring! Luckily, today here in Sweden we have blue skies and sunshine to help usher in the ever-welcome season.

If you haven't had a look at the gunk that has loaded up on your computer and is squashing its performance, today is the perfect time to take half an hour and do a little system spring cleaning.

Beta Three

by Michael on March 16th, 2007 in Beta Testing, Lavasoft Products.

Beta Two had another astonishing 340,000 downloads. That's even more than Beta One. Kudos to our beta testers worldwide!

Beta Three is ready and waiting on The Beta Page (after login to the Beta-Applications page).

Happy testing!

Lavasoft News recently interviewed blog pioneer Rebecca Blood, who had some insightful things to say about the progression of the "web log."

"Everyone has a story to tell. Everyone is passionate about something. For some people it's their profession, for some people it's their family, and for others it?s politics or knitting or food. The Web enables people to connect with others who share their interests - whether that interest is shared by only 3 other people, or by 3000."

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives vowed yesterday to push forward the Spy Act, a bill that aims to impose extensive regulations on what types of action software may perform.

Cnet has the full scoop.

In January, we brought you news of the N.Y., USA settlement that held advertisers, not just third party media buyers, responsible for ads delivered through adware.

But we haven't seen the end of advertisers displaying online ads through software installed without computer users? consent. Researcher Ben Edelman says that two of the companies in that N.Y. settlement have yet to sever their ties with spyware vendors.

Could the biggest malware culprit be a tiny island territory with the smallest economy of any country in the world?
