If you've made the switch to Windows Vista, your favorite anti-spyware is now compatible to make sure you are protected against the latest security threats that will inevitably sneak into your computer...and into your life!
If you are an existing customer, simply open your existing Ad-Aware 2007 program and click on the 'Web Update' button in the menu to automatically update to the Vista-compatible version.
The latest security vulnerabilities have been released at Microsoft, including 6 critical and 3 important security bulletins (14 vulnerabilities in total).
The Windows programs and operating systems affected include: Vista, XP, Internet Explorer, XML Core Services, Virtual Basic, Office, and Virtual Server.
Over the last weeks, we have quietly expanded our Spyware Education Center with several nice and short articles about some current computer security threats. So why not spend a few spare minutes during your weekend and become (even more) educated?
Now in my third week as CEO of Lavasoft, I've had a chance (a brief one, at that) to catch my breath and write a few of my thoughts on this new position and on where I plan to lead Lavasoft in the coming months, and beyond.
This position is certainly a challenge, but it is one I am excited to take on in terms of realizing the opportunities we have before us and shaping the future of Lavasoft, at the same time renewing our commitment to protect computer users worldwide.
It's relatively easy these days for a company to say they do business internationally. Students flock to the international courses at Uni. And living in a foreign country certainly comes with its share of intrigue and enchantment.
We thought it would be interesting to do a quick head count at Lavasoft and we found that not only are we an international company (in the commercial sense), but we are also a company of internationals.
Within our Lavasoft team of 40 employees, we proudly represent the following countries (in no particular order, I might add):
Let me take a quick moment to explain for you one of the ways we are 'walking the walk' when it comes to making real social change in this burgeoning malware industry. We belong to two organizations that you should be familiar with, if only from a point of interest.
Zlob. Fake codecs. Zlob codecs. Smitfraud Trojan. This online enemy goes by many names, but no matter what it's called, the devious tactics and growth on the web are undeniable.
Zlob Trojans, similar to the closely related Vundo Trojan, are malware that usually masquerade as a codec needed to play a video, and then install adware or malware on an unsuspecting users system. (Below is an example of a request message prompting you to download a fake codec. Click for a larger image).
Since we released the new 2007 version of Ad-Aware in June, we are frequently asked why the new product was built as a service. So, we thought we'd take a few minutes here for a quick education on the service, and why it is important to combat the compexities of today's malware.
So, we understand that it may be new for you, but we want you to understand that we are making sure that the new Ad-Aware engine is position to handle the worst the worst as we move forward. I hope this information has been helpful.
The Ad-Aware 2007 Architecture
Consumer Reports has come out with the results of their latest "State of the Net" report which surveyed over 2,000 online households to look at the impact of spam, viruses, phishing, and spyware.
According to the report -
The good news: Spyware infections dropped among respondents to the survey.
We are happy to announce that Joe Wells will be joining the Lavasoft team as chief technology officer.
Joe is well-known for his extensive career in anti-Trojan and anti-virus solutions as well as his more recent work within anti-spyware and emerging security threats. You may also know him as the founder of the WildList Organization International, an international cooperative identifying and reporting the latest virus threats.
Just a quick update for our Firewall customers:
We have added the updated PDF manual for Lavasoft Personal Firewall 2.0 to the Support Center now so get your copy while supplies last (excuse the e-distribution humor).
Nice work Tobias, it looks great!
What can we say - they're going nuts for our software!
Ad-Aware 2007 Free has been chosen by the team at FreeFunFiles as their Editors Pick for the month of August.
