Since its public release on October 22, there’s been quite a bit of talk on Windows 7, and whether or not you should upgrade now to the new operating system. And, you’ve more than likely had your fill on news on this for the time being. We have, though, received some questions in from users on our Ad-Aware software’s compatibility, so we’d like to take a moment to address this, and let you know that - yes - here at Lavasoft, we’re ready!
Two new rogue applications from the Winiguard family have been released. The people behind these fraud tools constantly change the names of their applications and move them to new servers.

You may have seen the news that broke this week on a phishing scheme that has allowed scammers to harvest credentials from Hotmail accounts, leaking a list of thousands of log-in details online. Now it seems the scope is more widespread, and is involving users of other web-based mail accounts.

Today, October 1, marks the start of National Cyber Security Awareness Month in the U.S.
At Lavasoft, we’re happy to endorse this public awareness campaign to encourage everyone to protect their computers and raise awareness about the importance of online security. What can you do to help promote this year’s theme, “Our Shared Responsibility”? Take a look at the StaySafeOnline.org site for details on how businesses, home users, and educators can get involved. For those stateside, also be sure to check out the list of events taking place this month throughout the U.S. to support the campaign.
Lavasoft was at the Virus Bulletin conference again last week, this time as one of the main sponsors. The folks from GData were there with their now infamous annual foosball tournament, or table football as it's formally known - for serious players (like our Microsoft adversaries), or for fun-loving teams like the ladies of Lavasoft.

You may have heard the saying, "In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes." Not to add more pessimism to that phrase, but, judging by what we’ve seen in the past, and continue to see today, it seems that we could also tack on “online tax scams” to that list of inevitabilities.
Here’s a recent example: there’s a new tax-related spam campaign that has been making the rounds for weeks but is still going strong today. All US taxpayers should be aware of this one –
