by Erin on October 6th, 2009 in Support, Lavasoft Products.

You’ve heard by now that the new 2010 version of Ad-Aware will soon be hitting the market. Thanks to all our users around the world waiting patiently for more news on our upcoming Ad-Aware release. The public launch date will be … October 13, 2009! So, stay tuned next Tuesday, when you’ll see first-hand the power-packed improvements to our anti-malware technology, new easy-to-use features, fresh community initiatives, and more!

And, you’ve most likely also heard that – in keeping with Lavasoft’s  vision that every computer user, regardless of economic status or geographic location, has the power to control their individual privacy and security on the Internet – we plan to add anti-virus detection to the free version of Ad-Aware. While we remain just as committed to providing this change to Ad-Aware Free, it will not be coming in the October release. Are we still planning and pushing for it? Absolutely. All discussions here at Lavasoft point to the fact that our next major product update, coming in January 2010, will include FULL anti-virus and anti-spyware protection for our freeware users.

Want to know more about what you’ll see in the launch of the all-new Ad-Aware next week? The new version has improved features and functionality coming to all three versions of Ad-Aware that will help to keep you safe and give you added control online; you’ll see this with our cutting-edge anti-malware technology – including new Genotype detection and behavior-based heuristics –, new usability features that allow you to tailor the program to fit your needs, and the community collaboration that will allow you to help shape Ad-Aware to make it more your own. So, whether you’re a Free, Plus or Pro user, the new Ad-Aware will give you the power to use the Internet how, when and where you want.  Watch this space next week for the full launch news!

Gee Can anyone tell my why this newer version keeps freezing-up on loading??

I uninstalled the darn thing and reinstalled back to the old version 2009 and that one works fine for now. Funny I didn't find a way to conatact support it just loops me around to frequently asked questions. I have purchased the plus. Oh and then I had to sign-up for the forum but still waiting for the confirmation in my e-mail.

First of  all there is no Norton on my Pc.  I downloaded the upgrade, saved to desktop double-clicked to install ok the install went well. Ask to restart to finish ok before shut-down the program downloaded updates. Then during the restart the Adaware loading page appeared and was stuck there for a good 10 min. I figured it was just finishing up or something. Ok it showed the application page. Showed that it will self-maintanenced & how to change it; clicked off of that. Then the program closed and went to reopen the loading page just stayed there froze-up!

So, You think you could do the ctrl,Alt, Delete(Windows Task manager) to see if the application is responding or froze. Guess what folks? The application won't appear in your Windows Task manager! Well I uninstalled the darn thing and reinstalled back to the old version 2009 and that one works fine for now. Just have to wait till the bugs are all worked out I guess.

I have used the free version for many years and never really had any issues till now. I will contact support but I thought it would be beneficial to others that might see this same result after installing this latest version.

It seems to have installed correctly but when I run the scan either full or short it completes rather quickly and just shuts down. I mean it just closes. It doesn't display any results. Then when I restart the program it shows that there were no previous scans done. Hmmm... I'm running WIN XP Pro.

Never had an issue till now. Hope this blog takes, the email problem report and the submit for the uninstall survey doesn't seem to work for me either. Hmmm... You guys awake in there?

Like Walt, it seems to have installed correctly but when I run the scan either full or short it completes rather quickly and just goes to the system tray. It doesn't display any results. If I double-click the icon in the system tray, I get the Ad-Aware start dialog box, and then it disappears. I have the Pro version.
