Conflict with Windows Live OneCare

by Michael on March 20th, 2008 in Lavasoft Products.

For our Ad-Aware users who have experienced the current conflict with Windows Live OneCare, asking you to uninstall Ad-Aware, we've received confirmation from them that they will fix the conflict on their side in two stages (unfortunately because of their size they are slow to getting patches out to market).

  • The false positive tagging of Ad-Aware as an 'at risk' application will be fixed with an update they intend to send out in April.
  • The requirement of uninstalling Ad-Aware before OneCare will install will be fixed in their update scheduled for June-July.

Even though software developers should be keenly aware of this issue right now, conflicts like this between simililar products do happen - even if unnecessary. However, when they happen with Microsoft it is even more sensitive given their monopolistic ways. You can see my earlier rant on the subject from an earlier blog post. You can also read more about the conflict and discussion on our Support Forums.
