Users that are looking for information regarding Gray Powell, associated with the Apple iPhone 4.0 leak, may find themselves redirected to rogue websites that launch a fake anti-virus scan upon arrival.

Here’s an important Web warning for our US-based readers: be on the lookout for online tax season scams and census-related fraud.

Here are the details you should know -

Tax Season Scams

DigitalProtection is a new rogue anti-virus program. It is a clone of PaladinAntivirus.

Most of us use the Web on a daily basis, without ever giving much thought to the undersea world which keeps us all connected. (Case in point: have you heard of Google’s $300 million ‘Unity’ project that will soon deliver a new high-speed Internet cable, increasing capacity across the Pacific by 20 percent?).

Here’s some encouraging cyber crime news –

Working with the U.S. FBI, Romanian police this past week have arrested 70 suspects of long-running online scams and fraud, thought to be from three organized cyber crime groups. The alleged fraudsters were involved in online auction scams targeting users of eBay.

A simple, yet effective, way for these criminals to increase rogue sales is to hitch a ride on the back of a well-known security product, and distribute it through a rogue website.

In its second out-of-band update (meaning delivered outside of the regular Patch Tuesday schedule) in the past three months, Microsoft said today that it’s planning to issue an emergency security update tomorrow. The update will patch a zero-day vulnerability in Internet Explorer 6 and 7 that has been used to launch drive-by attacks.

Check Microsoft’s ‘Security Bulletin Advance Notification’ for full details.
