The Top Spam-Relaying Countries

by Erin on May 4th, 2010 in Industry and Security News.

CNN ran a cyber crime-related story this week on who’s responsible for sending all the spam messages clogging users' inboxes with unwanted advertising, bogus claims, and even malware and viruses. As referenced in the article, anti-virus firm Sophos recently released figures that some might find surprising: China – a country often taking heat as a hotbed for cyber crime activity – has dropped off Sophos' ‘dirty dozen’ list of top spam-relaying countries, believed to be responsible for less than 2 percent of the world’s spam. Which country takes the lead? The United States was found to be the number one source of spam, followed by India, then Brazil. Read the CNN article for details.
