The Lavasoft Challenge
In the August issue of Lavasoft News, part of our focus is how we can all do our part to make sure that the technology-centered world we live in leaves a less harmful impact on our surroundings. Lavasoft has recently teamed up with an eco-friendly company, GreenPrint. GreenPrint software automatically eliminates wasteful pages in printouts, saving time and money, but also saving trees. As part of our own "going green" effort, we have introduced the Lavasoft tree planting challenge - for every GreenPrint product bought by a Lavasoft customer, two trees will be planted.
The tree planting project is coordinated by American Forests, an organization that plants native trees in ecosystem restoration projects across the United States and around the world, and by Sustainable Harvest International (SHI), a group committed to long-term sustainable development in Central American farming communities where the trees are planted. Take a look below at the areas throughout the globe where the trees from the Lavasoft challenge will be planted. (Click the graphic to see a larger image).
In 2007, American Forests will coordinate the planting of more than three million trees in cooperation with local and national organizations in the United States, Honduras, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Mexico. SHI works with more than 850 participating families in 90 Central American communities in Honduras, Panama, Belize and Nicaragua; SHI helps workers who were involved in slashing and burning forests by creating tree planting jobs instead, providing a wage their families can live on, in order to create a stable future both environmentally and economically.
To give you a little perspective on how these tree planting projects help the environment, according to the USDA Forest Service, a single tree generates $31,250 (U.S.) worth of oxygen, provides $62,000 worth of air pollution control, recycles $37,500 worth of water, and controls $31,250 worth of soil erosion, over a 50-year life span.
These are projects we are truly proud to be a part of, and we hope you'll feel the same! For more information, be sure to read this month's Lavasoft News. We'll keep you posted on the results.
