Saint Lucia Day
We thought we'd share with you a bright, warm tradition, straight from Lavasoft headquarters.
On December 13th, people across Scandinavia greet the dark morning with candles and singing, marking the annual celebration of Saint Lucia in Sweden.
The tradition of Saint Lucia Day dates back to the Middle Ages, when December 13th fell on the winter solstice, the longest day of the year. The day is celebrated to honor the Sicilian martyr, Lucia.
It's now played out with a Lucia parade in towns, schools, and offices: a 'Lucia' dressed in white with a crown of candles on her head, followed by 'star boys' wearing tall, pointy hats and carrying star wands, all singing the song, Sankta Lucia.
What do all of us at Lavasoft love about Lucia Day? We had the chance to see some of our staff dressed up as Lucia and the 'star boys' in our very own Lavasoft Lucia procession! An opera singer from the Gothenburg Opera house helped them out with singing the traditional songs. See the video for yourself!
