Adware Guilty Plea

Here's a news update for those that have been following the U.S. FBIs Operation Bot Roast investigation ...

A Florida-based bot herder has pleaded guilty to surreptitiously installing adware on hundreds of PCs in Europe, costing tens of thousands of dollars to detect and neutralize. Robert Bentley, 21, could face up to 10 years in prison and $250,000 U.S. in fines for his part in this botnet scheme when he's sentenced on May 28.

This is the second guilty plea from Operation Bot Roast arrests, a project launched to crackdown on cyber crime propagated by botnets. The investigation - which has been worked in cooperation with law enforcement agencies across borders, including the U.S. Secret Service, the Finland National Bureau of Investigation, and the London Metropolitan Police - is a step forward in showing cyber criminals that they will be brought to justice.
