Summary:

Worm. A program that is primarily replicating on networks or removable drives.

Payload

Behaviour Description
WormAutorun A worm can spread via removable drives. It writes its executable and creates "autorun.inf" scripts on all removable drives. The autorun script will execute the Worm's file once a user opens a drive's folder in Windows Explorer.

Process activity

The Worm creates the following process(es):

%original file name%.exe:3140
chrome.exe:2816

The Worm injects its code into the following process(es):

chrome.exe:3584
Explorer.EXE:1440

Mutexes

The following mutexes were created/opened:
No objects were found.

File activity

The process %original file name%.exe:3140 makes changes in the file system.
The Worm creates and/or writes to the following file(s):

C:\Users\"%CurrentUserName%"\AppData\Local\Temp\XX--XX--XX.txt (235 bytes)
C:\Windows\System32\WinRAR\Chrome.exe (7726 bytes)

The process chrome.exe:3584 makes changes in the file system.
The Worm creates and/or writes to the following file(s):

C:\Users\"%CurrentUserName%"\AppData\Roaming\logs.dat (15 bytes)
C:\Windows\System32\WinRAR\Chrome.exe (48 bytes)
C:\Users\"%CurrentUserName%"\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Crashpad\settings.dat (80 bytes)
C:\Users\"%CurrentUserName%"\AppData\Local\Temp\UuU.uUu (24 bytes)
C:\Users\"%CurrentUserName%"\AppData\Local\Temp\XxX.xXx (8336 bytes)

The Worm deletes the following file(s):

C:\Users\"%CurrentUserName%"\AppData\Local\Temp\XX--XX--XX.txt (0 bytes)
C:\Users\"%CurrentUserName%"\AppData\Local\Temp\XxX.xXx (0 bytes)
C:\Users\"%CurrentUserName%"\AppData\Local\Temp\UuU.uUu (0 bytes)

Registry activity

The process %original file name%.exe:3140 makes changes in the system registry.
The Worm creates and/or sets the following values in system registry:

[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\Run]
"Chrome" = "C:\Windows\system32\WinRAR\Chrome.exe"

[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{E5RN2G70-U27O-X011-7RE8-BGKNBVA6LMNO}]
"StubPath" = "C:\Windows\system32\WinRAR\Chrome.exe Restart"

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run]
"Chrome" = "C:\Windows\system32\WinRAR\Chrome.exe"

To automatically run itself each time Windows is booted, the Worm adds the following link to its file to the system registry autorun key:

[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Chrome" = "C:\Windows\system32\WinRAR\Chrome.exe"

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Chrome" = "C:\Windows\system32\WinRAR\Chrome.exe"

The process chrome.exe:3584 makes changes in the system registry.
The Worm creates and/or sets the following values in system registry:

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap]
"AutoDetect" = "1"

[HKCU\Software\D@NIEL]
"FirstExecution" = "12/04/2018 -- 06:09"

[HKCU\Software\Google\Chrome\BLBeacon]
"failed_count" = "0"

[HKCU\Software\D@NIEL]
"NewIdentification" = "D@NIEL"

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap]
"UNCAsIntranet" = "0"

[HKCU\Software\Google\Chrome\BLBeacon]
"State" = "2"

[HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\MuiCache\63\52C64B7E]
"LanguageList" = "en-US, en"

The Worm deletes the following value(s) in system registry:

[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap]
"ProxyBypass"

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap]
"ProxyBypass"
"IntranetName"

[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap]
"IntranetName"

Propagation

A worm can spread via removable drives. It writes its executable and creates "autorun.inf" scripts on all removable drives. The autorun script will execute the Worm's file once a user opens a drive's folder in Windows Explorer.
