The Dictionary Goes Hi-Tech

by Erin on March 29th, 2007 in Industry and Security News.

The term "Malware" is a familiar one to all of us, and has been for years, but it wasn't until recently that it was officially recognized as a word.

The Oxford English Dictionary has added "malware" to its online version.

Editors at OED online gave the thumbs-up to a handful of other technology-related terms in the dictionarys quarterly update. "Wiki" (six years after the Wikipedia.org encyclopedia debuted online), "Infobahn", "undelete", "technopreneur" and "virtualize" were also added.

The last update to the dictionary in December 2006 didn't include much from the tech world - "groupware", "webcast" and "superminicomputer" were the only additions.
