Increase in definition file update frequency

by Andy on April 3rd, 2009 in Definition File Updates, Researcher Comments.

The 1st of April marked the end of an era - support of the Ad-Aware SE definition file was discontinued. As the volumes of malware increased, so did the time it took to build the SE definition file which meant that we were limited to building two definition files per week.

Due to improvements in the definition file creation system and the end of support for the Ad-Aware SE updates, starting Monday 6th of April, the Malware Labs will provide definition files for Ad-Aware 2007, 2008, AE and Enterprise users on a daily basis during the week. This increase in the rate we publish updates will help reduce the time between when the Malware Labs acquire a malware sample and the time the definition file is published, resulting in better protection for Ad-Aware users.

On behalf of the Malware Lab team, we bid Ad-Aware SE a teary, fond farewell. Now, where’s the champagne? :)
