The Aesthetics of Malware

by Tobias on January 23rd, 2008 in Riff Raff.

Visual artist Alex Dragulescu has created a set of aesthetic, organic-looking visualizations of malware.

"For each piece of disassembled code, API calls, memory addresses and subroutines are tracked and analyzed. Their frequency, density and grouping are mapped to the inputs of an algorithm that grows a virtual 3D entity. Therefore the patterns and rhythms found in the data drive the configuration of the artificial organism."

The Ultimate Defender Zlob

by Michael on September 26th, 2007 in Riff Raff.

A nice note from one of our customers yesterday:

"I was having a problem with the Ultimatedefender and Ultimatecleaner bogus trojan.32.looksky worm and running the Ad-Aware program with the latest updates corrected the problem.  I kept running my trend micro pc virus program scanning the entire system and nothing was reported."

Thanks!

Pot of Gold

by Michael on September 19th, 2007 in Everyday Life at Lavasoft, Riff Raff.

We were so tempted to run across the bridge to the other side of the river when we saw that this rainbow had landed right outside. Was there a pot of gold? We'll never know.

High-Tech Ideas

by Erin on June 29th, 2007 in Riff Raff.

Ever wonder what kind of cool developments are in store for the future of computing?

PC Magazine has published Five Ideas That Will Reinvent Modern Computing, giving a round-up of its favorite projects in the works at leading tech research labs.

As you might have noticed, Ad-Aware 2007 Beta Seven is the final beta, which means that we are gearing up for the big release in June. Besides the obvious work of putting the finishing touches on the software itself, it also includes getting the packaging ready, designing the product manuals, and generating the serial numbers for each and every product.

Harmonized Horses

Even in Sweden we need a break now and then from the seriousness that surrounds us. Enjoy!

Easter the Swedish Way

Did you all notice our bunny ears on the Lavasoft logo? Happy Easter everyone!

With the holiday around the corner, we thought we would take this opportunity to educate all of you on Swedish traditions.

Websites as Graphs

Looking at something through new eyes is always refreshing. This is a graphical image of the blog webpage you are looking at right now. Cool, isn't it?

Kids, it's okay to try this at home!

Mouse Rage

by Erin on January 3rd, 2007 in Riff Raff.

A rapid heart rate..increased sweating..furious clicking of the mouse..cursing at your computer screen. Do any of these happen to you when you're surfing the web? If so, you may be experiencing the first signs of "mouse rage."

At least that's what a new study has to say.

We've all had frustrating moments when our computers just won't work the way we want them to. But are poorly designed websites and annoying pop-up ads actually bad for our health?

We're So Proud

by Michael on December 19th, 2006 in Riff Raff.

We really are speechless. Honored. Humbled.

According to Google Earth, the Kingdom of Norway has now found itself smack-dab in the middle of the Kingdom of Sweden (see the photo)!

Johan Kinnander, the manager of Google's Scandinavian branch, only had this to say. "Jag måste kolla upp det här innan jag kan lämna någon kommentar" (translation: I must check on this before I can comment.)
