You will always need an active subscription in order to use the application. When you first install the application will be able to run the application for free during a "grace period". When this evaluation period expires you will need to purchase an activation code. This code is used to activate your subscription. This subscription feature is becoming standard for most security products and helps to ensures that you are using the latest version of your security software.
